Planning Center defaults Household names to "[Last Name] Household" (e.g. "Smith Household") so we created the Household Name Fixer Elixir. You can turn the fixer on and off, and when switched on the fixer elixir will automatically pretty up household names so you don't have to change all of the names for your directory.
The tool has certain rules it follows, and herewith we present them:
If a household name is not set to the default, the fixer will leave it alone.
In Planning Center, a household can be named specifically. In these cases, the fixer elixir will not affect the naming of these households in the directory.
If the household name is equal to the default ("[Last Name] Household"), Adjace will attempt to display "[First name of primary] and [First name of spouse] [Last name of primary]"
As an example, if the Smith household has the primary contact as John and his spouse is Mary, the fixer elixir will display their household as "John and Mary Smith."
The fixer assumes the adults that share anniversaries in a household are spouses, or the oldest adult other than the primary is the spouse of the primary.
Adjace defines an adult as being the age of 18 or older and spouses are assumed if they have the same anniversary date. If the Smith household did not have an anniversary between John and Mary, the fixer elixir tool would still use the same household if Mary's birthday is less than ten years from John's.
If there is no adult other than the primary, the name will be simply "[First name of primary] [Last name of primary]".
If a household only has the primary contact as an adult, the fixer elixir tool will use the primary contact to name the household (e.g. "John Smith").
If the primary and spouse have different last names, the name will be "[First and Last name of primary] and [First and Last name of spouse]"
If the primary and another member have the same anniversary, the fixer elixir will use this to make their household name (e.g. "Matthew Fisher and Anna Trapp").
Single-parents with adult dependents fall back to the Planning Center household name.
A single mother, Mary Smith, has a son, Jack Smith - age 18, the household name would default back to "Smith Household." While not awesome, this is at least correct.
The fixer will not synchronize household names back to Planning Center.
You can edit this setting in your Directory Layout options.
